Scheduling classes at your home school and at NCSSM can get complicated. Learn more about scheduling with NCSSM Online by checking out a few weekly schedules. Many online students attend prom, where they can interact with other students from both the online and residential programs. Understanding, respecting, and appreciating fellow students' differences and similarities is a value shared across all NCSSM programs. NCSSM Online takes education far beyond a computer screen. Online students visit NCSSM's Durham campus once per semester to collaborate with instructors and fellow students. Students are encouraged to participate in clubs and research activities. Instructor: Gina Raicovich, Instructor of Science Monday - Friday, June 28 - Jat 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM ET every day Creative thinking and collaborative learning will be emphasized Students will be encouraged to imagine how positive change can occur in their own homes and communities. We will start with exploring how we define sustainability and then delve into focus areas such as ecological agriculture, green business, renewable energy, and others. In this class we will look at how humans are impacting the planet and how we can potentially change our systems and our habits to live more sustainably. During the second week of each course, students will interact with their instructor and other students via video conferencing meetings and will have about 15 hours of work for the week. Outside of class time, students have the opportunity to participate in virtual extracurricular enrichment programs every weekday from noon - 1pm and 4pm - 5pm. The first week of each course takes place asynchronously and will consist of about 5 hours of work. Using a pen tablet is just like writing and drawing by hand, but so much easier to edit and fix! In addition, the drawing pen is also available to be used as a pointer for choosing menu items on the Chromebook or other computer. Students, with a computer, will be able to freehand draw, easily do a math problem and show their work, mark up a peer's English essay with their feedback, sketchnote a lecture in class, create an animation in Google Slides, markup an photo taken during a science lab, take their class notes by hand, and much more.
